A Concert For The Moon Bears
Rick Wakeman played an outdoor piano concert for more than 150 rescued moon bears at a sanctuary in Vietnam.
On 24 September, musician Rick Wakeman sat at a grand piano in Vietnam’s Tam Dao National Park for an unusual audience: more than 150 rescued moon bears.
The former Yes keyboardist performed at the Vietnam Bear Rescue Centre for Free the Final Bears, an event organised by Animals Asia. The bears live in the sanctuary after being rescued from captivity. Wakeman, a longtime supporter of the charity, wrote new music for the occasion.
It is a lovely image: a piano among the trees and bears nearby in their sanctuary habitat. The concert also carried a serious purpose. Animals Asia says more than 120 bears remain captive in Vietnam, and the event called attention to efforts to bring them into safe care.
